Black & White aims at promotion of art awareness in the broader social sphere by supporting serious endeavors of art writing and art criticism in India. As a significant step in this direction Black & White published one book authored by renowned contemporary writer-art critic Moushumi Kandali about the Modern art of Assam. The book was released on 6th March 2011 in Guwahati in a solemn function at Vivekananda Kendra followed by a lecture by eminent art historian Prof Deepak Kannal,former Dean,Faculty Of Fine Arts,Baroda.The meeting was graced by eminent poet and art critic Nilomoni Phukan and writer and cultural activist Pushpo Gogoi along with art collector Dharmesh Panchal and renowned artist Ganesh Gohain and Santana Gohain the executive members of Black & White.The book is a foremost attempt for a holistic mapping of the modern art scenario of Assam touching upon various issues such as the politics of identity, feminist concern: women artists and gender issues, political consciousness , trait of abstractions etc as manifested in the modern or contemporary art of Assam. Written in Assamese with the aim of creating art awareness among the common masses , the book is under process of publication in English too covering hitherto an unexplored area of modern Indian art.
